Urgent every hour and every minute counts
by Issa Monday April 08, 2002 at 05:25 PM

Jenin - Briefings ---

Several heavy shielded bulldozers of the army digging a wide road 8 - 10 m wide from west to east ..to cut off the camp into two halves.

This is done also with air bombings , hundreds of bombs, from 2 - 7 Cobra and Apatchi helicopters,,each raid…it is still continuing from around 20.00 last night…till now.

The soldiers sometimes withdraw for the helicopters to do the strikes ..this came after the helicopters bombarded a house where soldiers were inside on the assumption that they were Palestinians…the shooting and the bombing is severe and directed towards the houses with much brutality.

More than one third of the camp houses have been destroyed…total destruction….tens of people died in this way.

Health sources from inside the camp.., with witnesses say that dead bodies still in the streets and narrow roads of the camp from 100 - 150.

This the fifth day that ambulances can’t reach to save the injured or the corps….all health workers and representatives are issuing SOS for help through the media..directly..till now no result……on the ground.

In the past 36 hours..only 2 corps and one injured were received by the hospital……this is a proof that what is going as the people there see another bigger intentional massacre than sabra and shatila……

Health situation and living is so much to a degree that people are now drinking from the sewage and eating leaves of trees.

We got now from a witness that hundreds of bodies are under rubles of the houses..the people who saved themselves are gathered in the university.

Families of Shalabi had suffered ..where one soldier killed the son of 34 yrs..then the other soldier exchanged and killed the father of 62 yrs in front of the sons and grandsons..as they want to repeat the experience of deir yasin so that people will flee…but this made the people more firmed of not leaving.

And in the event another two old men -more than 64 yrs-. And one 45 yrs were also shot in front of their families..they are from the families of Sa’adi and Zare’ni.

Doctors said that they were shot at intentionally ..so as to kill as many people ..as the orders of the criminal Sharon.

In these days it is not fair for the victims to make analysis..and if some politicians reading these lines wouldn’t understand what mentality is behind these atrocities…….. then ….humanity and conscious is lost.

Still alive

Stop the massacre of palestinian people
by Aaron Doncaster Monday April 08, 2002 at 08:54 PM

What is happening to the palistinian people is pure genocide, Isreal must cease and they must be held accountable for there atrocious actions. I fully suport the palistinian resistance. I wish it could be resolved peacfully but unless alot of internationals get to palestine this will not be the case, even with internationals there, the IDF will still shoot. The palestinian resistance is one of self-defence and I support it 100%!!

I have been following this thing since April 1 and also the twin towers episode. I heard what the French head of secret police said to the American counterpart, and I believe this took place in France. "Unimaginable" was his reported reply. And I have heard this phrase bandied all over in mockery.
I heard of Vreeland later, and of Odgo, and I remembre
hearing reports among the foreign Arabs that all the Jewish people had evacuated the Twin Touwers before the strikes. Annd I recall on two occasions the smiling Zinni (is his name) exiting the compound of Arafat. The second occasion he wouldn't take a letter from the Internationals there, was that also so? And I
thought , too, in these days about the genocide on the Japanese civilians to end WW 2, the napalming of the Vientnamese, the Afgan bombing of civilians and whatone genocide lost his position for calling a genocide, now this gennocide of the Palestinian people. When I was young I objected to the Vietnamese genocide. Annd now that I'm older and cared thenn I see this in many of these letters I read here. I really do. The bloodiest, bawdiest villains, the survival of the fittest they euphemnistically decorate themselves in honor. And you know my Father, on his death bed, said a very interesting thing, that human beings were not very high up on the evolutionary ladder. And you know something, this would still be a ytrue statement even if there were no evolutionary ladder, no help for humans coming from heaven, and if Bush and Sharon were in fact the twin axese of evil around which this world is presently turning.

not true re Jews & WTC
by vcrs Monday April 08, 2002 at 10:07 PM

I am a long-time supporter of Palestinian right to liberation and long-time opponent of the occupation, and I have no blood connection to Judaism. However, I don't think we should allow our passionate defense of Palestinian rights, nor our fury and helpless rage about what's currently going on, to lead us to "become the evil that we deplore." The state of Israel and the religion & people of Judaism worldwide are not synonymous. Opposing Israel doesn't mean becoming racist against Jews. Most of the most ardent anti-occupation people I work with are Jewish. Many of the strongest voices for peace within Israel are Jewish. Adam Shapiro, who is speaking out so eloquently against the occupation from with Arafat's compound, is Jewish, and so is a dear friend of mine who is working for human rights right now in the Gaza Strip.

It's outrageous slander that Jewish people didn't go to work on 9/11. I have two Jewish friends who narrowly escaped theWTC and a building across the street, and I know that there were Jewish people working at Kantor Fitzgerald, where all perished. Look at the photos appearing daily in the NYT, of the 911 victims--there are Jews among them, along with Italians, Africans, Arabs, and everyone else. Don't be a sucker--don't fall for racism. Stand for humanity and courage and commitment and passion--not for petty racist divisions.

Right to Independence
by Alyda Tuesday April 09, 2002 at 12:41 AM

I understand people of Palestine longing for independence. Unfortunately suicide bombing is not the way to gain the world's sympathy. And the world's sympathy is what Palestine needs. If it gained its independence it would not be strong enough on its own to defend itself against attacks by outside countries. Palestine's elected leaders aren't even able to control their own people. Unfortunately for Palestine the violence against Israeli citizens and not the military itself leads me and many other people in this world to believe that Palestine does not deserve to rule its own country. If Palestine followed non-violent protests and actions like Ghandi, we (the rest of the world) would be more sympathetic. And then Israel really would look like a big bully. Violence begets violence... btw, if ANYTHING bad happens to the Church of the Nativity or the nuns and priests the entire Christian world would condemn whoever is responsible. And that would be a very bad thing.

Mr Right to Independence (Alyda)
I diagree with you, the Palestines do not have the type military might of Israel, thus they have to revert to suicide bombings. Where as Israel goes in with their tanks and helicoters and kills, just because it is government sponsored it means it is right. After all the Israel's ancestors have been through with regard to Nazi Germany & Hitler, and the polish ghettos I think they should have a good cold hard look at themselves.

Sharon is making things far worse and the resolve of the Palestian people will only get stronger. The world is speaking. If this fighting continues the Palestians will go down with the Israelis. There is a lot of anti American & Israeli feeling out there, because they are selfish peoples that like to control.

How long before Sharon Instigates the final solution in Palestine. He's already well on the road to creating the Ghettos of the Second World War. How can a people that has had genocide practiced on them let their Leaders practice it on others. Will they stand up like the German people did and claim that they did not know it was happening. The Jews suffered horrible treatment at the hands of Hitler and the Nazi's before the world community intervened. How long before we intervene to stop this new genocide at the hands Sharon and his new breed of Jewish Nazi's.

Build a destiny in which you will exist.

My sincerest solidarity to the victims of the vicious and murderous assault on the Palestinian people. I call on Israeli army officers and conscripts to shoot their superior officers if ordered to fire upon civilians or civilian buildings. Likewise, Palestinans should attack those who call them to violence. Those who take innocent life have become insane. The IDF should assassinate Sharon to protect their fellow soldiers own lives, who are being being wasted alongside the hundreds of Palestinians who have been ritually sacrified. Do not allow yoursef to be cannon fodder, it is time to destroy authority to protect all of our lives. For any US Military who read this, remember - protect each other by refusing to murder, kill your superior officer to protect your compatriots, family and friends. An American College Student Speaks Up!!
by A True American Patriot Tuesday April 09, 2002 at 03:03 AM

Obviously, as the world, and America, found out on the morning of Sept 11th, the world is full of hate mongering individuals. This includes Americans, as hate crimes rose dramatically over the following weeks and months, even against people who where assumed to be Islamic and weren’t. (Hate crimes are WRONG no matter what!!!)
You sir, if you are even worthy of that, hate one religious group based on the zealous and extreme actions of a few. They were radicals and extremists, true, but they don't represent the Islamic population of the world!
Another thing; you are not an American patriot! You belittle people you do not even know. You probably characterize all Muslims as terrorists, which is not true.
I have friends who are Christian, Islamic, Jewish, and Hindu. WE coexist peacefully until the middle east area is discussed, but that is allowed to a degree. No one dies, no one gets hurt, just a lot of heated debates.
Did you catch the "WE" and “COEXIST”?
Okay, away from pointing out what a pathetic American you are and making me wish I was born somewhere else, there are more important things to talk about, aka, The Current State of Israel.
It makes Northern Ireland look like a freaking church picnic and festival.
First of all, if the reports on this site are true 100%, (some are hopefully stretched, for humanity's sake), the IDF passed or at least matched the brutality of the SS (Elite Nazis) about a week ago, by invading, yes, invading refugee camps and Islamic housing districts and imposing a 24 hr curfew. Shelling innocent civilians is inexcusable. Thank God no reports of raping and pillaging on behalf of the IDF.
Then, IDF snipers shooting at foreign journalists, the article writers of this website. Today, I heard on CNN, that the Israelis had forced the major news corp. (NBC,ABC, CNN, FOX to name a few) journalists to leave certain areas. Whenever a govt. enforces censorship to this extent, some code of human and ethical conduct has been breached and that govt. does NOT want this to get out.
I wish Pres. Bush would see “what’s up” and put a more forcefully hand on Prime Minister Sharon shoulder and whisper in his ear LOUDER.
True, the past and following is based on the articles posted on this website. I know that they may be stretched or untrue, but any people have the right to defend what is legally theirs. Hence, your own house, family, rights and LIFE are every right to fight to the death. This is true for America, as we would not be here, unless we too stood up to a tyrannical govt., the British.
I support the current Palestinian attacks on the IDF and only those attacks on the IDF.

BUT BUT BUT, attacks on civilians must not be tolerated. Keep shooting at Israeli helicopters, tanks and soldiers, but no more attacks on disco hangouts (the last two words make me laugh), pizza places or market places. Again, a few people are making everyone pay the ultimate price. Do not make your people pay because of your ignorance and immaturity.
Remember, the world is watching, to the max that we can, so don’t do anything bad, you know like burn down Jesus’ birth place or any old churches. Would not be good if you EVER want American support.

God Bless America and the world!!

A TRUE RED AND BLUE PATRIOT

Freom what i have been reading and from the tv I find this situation completly mad .The Palistinians have no armed forces whatsoever ,the Israelis are utter bullies (surley they must understand that this is history repeating itself) 6 milloin jews died at the hand of the nazi party .Is this a case of the abused becoming the abusers? .With this so called war against terror seems to be an excuse for the Israelis to do as they please. Even with the US asking them to pull out they are not listening .It looks as if Israel arnt listening to their masters and becoming a nation hell bent on destroying peace.
Surely they can see that thes recent suicide bombings are an act of desparation from people who have been displaced for up to 2 generations ,who have had every human right taken away from them .

Loss of innocence
by A Truely Gratefull American Tuesday April 09, 2002 at 03:32 AM

Hardly, if any, Americans will visit this site. It is sad, that apathy is so high among Americans, especially kids my own age. I bet that Issa, (top of page) is probably my age, about 20. Here in America, I go to college, so that I too, like most of America can further my education and one day make money to survive.
There, in Palestine, he most not surive a day of hellish teachers, assignments or overcrowded classrooms, as I do here, but rather, Apache Helicopters, tanks and other American built products on a day to day process.
I go and stand in line for food, while he and his family (I wish them luck and hope) must scavenge for whatever they can find. I can wake up and smell the dumbster out back through my window or the cow pastures, while he wakes up to the smell of burnt and rotting flesh. I am lucky enough not to have lost a close friend. I bet though, Issa has experienced this more then once already.
For this, in my own way, I am grateful for living in such a grand country, even though we support the oppressor.
I pray for the Holy Land and for Issa and his family and all others caught in the death grip of the Dictator Sharon.

Go take a walk through Auschwitz and then re-think your view on the world you dumb sack of shit!

I denounce the suicide bombings because the targets are non-combatants.

I denounce the indiscriminate shelling, rocketing, and buldozing of private homes, and the "kill anything that moves" mentality that the IDF is using to "fight terror" because non-combatants are being targeted also.

ATTACKING UNARMED CIVILIANS IS TERRORISM REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU ARE USING A BOMB, F-16, TANK, AK-47, OR MORTAR!

KILLING NON-COMBATANTS IS A WAR CRIME NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE!

Sharon and Arafat must both GO! Both have shown that they are more interested in territory than human life........

The occupation must end and the free Palestinian state must be realized.

The suicide bombings must stop and the RHETORIC/DOGMA of "pushing the Jews into the sea" must come to and end.

Unless all of this is accomplished we are ALL doomed, that is everyone everywhere.
Revelations-Nostradamus-The END of the Mayan calendar-Planet X-the recent leak of the U.S. military posture on nukes-the collapse of the Larson B. ice shelf in antarctica-I could go on and on...............

All of these combine to show us (those of us who pay attention to what's really going on in the world instead of taking the corp medias word for it) that this is a very Important/Dangerous/Tense turning point for planet Earth right now, AND THE LAST THING WE NEED IS WW III and that's where this situation is going to go unless there is and end to the violence very soon.

Peaceful protest against people who believe themselves to be on a mission from god?

And who has been shooting at international aid workers?
Who has been shooting at the press?

Mr. Gandhi would'nt have lasted 5 minutes against the IDF!

Gandhi on the Palestine conflict - 1938
"Palestine belongs to the Arabs in the same sense that England belongs to the English or France to the French...What is going on in Palestine today cannot be justified by any moral code of conduct...If they [the Jews] must look to the Palestine of geography as their national home, it is wrong to enter it under the shadow of the British gun. A religious act cannot be performed with the aid of the bayonet or the bomb. They can settle in Palestine only by the goodwill of the Arabs... As it is, they are co-sharers with the British in despoiling a people who have done no wrong to them. I am not defending the Arab excesses. I wish they had chosen the way of non-violence in resisting what they rightly regard as an unacceptable encroachment upon their country. But according to the accepted canons of right and wrong, nothing can be said against the Arab resistance in the face of overwhelming odds." Mahatma Gandhi, quoted in "A Land of Two Peoples" ed. Mendes-Flohr.

Problem is that the USA is controlled from along time ago by the Jews.I think that many americans are so brainwashed that they cann't see the true.In fact looks like they always need an Proyotype enemy.(Russians,Japanese,vietnamese,arabs,...whom is next?).Christian in faith but very hard in heart.
Those whom realise they are not in 'control' tremble on the possibility of speaking on that touchy question, the Jew problem. If the bosses in the end are Jews, better to shut-up,not to risk their wonderful job and the dream of getting reach.
To our dismal all the nations in the world have to accept, that USA is the armed front of the jew domain. And when all the American realize that they are in their hands it will be too late for everybody.Last october,3 rd, Mr Sharon said tho Peres "donn't be affraid we control USA and the Americans knows that" .
Look at all the American ( and world ) media,to the largest corporations and even to the American officials.Look at Greenspan, look to present and past 'american' security official.Simply the USA has surrendered the most deepest secrets to these 'americans'.Ladies and Gentlemen, a Jew is first of all a Jew.

round siightedness is important
by Tami Tuesday April 09, 2002 at 06:04 AM

Being of the first to be horrified with the marking of Palestenians with felts, I still think it is important to just step back for a second. I am with holocaust survivers night and day. I know very well the similarities of the situation, but be aware of the differences too. Being a complete supporter of Palestenian state, and often this completely follows me not wanting to be the member of a nation who commits any attrocities, I am still disgusted by those who jump up and down in the guise of non violence towards one nation and their entire violence spills out on the other. Peace will simply not come our way with reverse racism and antisemitism is really not the scary thing here. Believe me, it's always been there and now just gets an address for all you who have no where to place anger. By the way, there are many many Jews, and Israelis, and those who are both...that not only condemn what is going on, but do everything they can to stop it. It is possible to worry about the pawns on both sides. Try it sometime.

My dear Alexander,

Israelis undoubtedly kill and arrest many terrorists during this "military operation", but you failed to mention they also destroy everything else in Palestinian lands as well.

There are *a lot* of people in Israel who genuinely want peace, but I wouldn't suggest Sharon and co. (those who are in power) belong to that group of people. Unless you mean "peace" is the situation when there are no more Palestinians, of course.

And although I'm not a fan of Arafat, calling him a "towelhead" certainly doesn't do any good. So fuck you.

Confrontation
by Jon Farr Tuesday April 09, 2002 at 07:31 AM
ga666@hotmail.com

I think that when people speak of Israel vs Palestine it automatically trivialises the argument because it re-enforces the unnecessary enmity between ordinary Palestinians and Israeli's. Presumably all these people want is a normal life where they can raise their children without fear, work for a living without economic or legal oppression. There is natural enmity between one group of people and another. What we are watching on the news is the dangerous politics of elite groups in both countries and in the USA and Europe. Of course ordinary people get involved because they are put in the front line by the likes of Sharon, Bush and Arafat. Notice how Sharon cheerfully masacres civilians but hesitates to kill Arafat, is this because he respects the leader of the Palestinians, unlikely. It is just the unwritten rule of the elite games which uses war as just another means of legitamising the rich and powerful. It is clear that the USA doesn't support Israel any more then Palestine, since they provide mostly military aid rather then economic stimulus, they arm arab countries and then claim that Israel is under threat. What we need is for the Palestinian and Israeli people to realise that they don't need their governments permission to make peace, that the prejudice should be against those who preach war and violence rather then against the so-called opposition.

stepfour@stepfour.com Hartford, Connecticut, USA

The bombing of Jewish kids on the streets of Tel Aviv by Palestinian teenagers, the destruction of Palestine by Israeli tanks, the devastation of Bethlehem and the shedding of blood on Jesus' birthplace are nothing more than the normal wages of democratic government. Election-year politics brought on this latest round of violence, and it will probably recede when Sharon or his successor is comfortably installed in office.

Sharon has always made his political living on anti-Arab bigotry. To maintain his status as a wartime leader, he provoked violence on the other side, and the other side obliged him. He has improved his popularity with the Israeli electorate by ten points, to 75 percent, since he sent tanks into Ramallah, and he has a commanding lead over all comers, despite a challenge on the right wing from one of his predecessors in office, Benjamin Netanyahu.

Arafat, for his part, enjoys an 80 percent approval rating among his constituents. It would evaporate promptly if he ever gave the speech Bush demands, repudiating the young bombers as criminals. His nation sees them as selfless patriots carrying out the will of God.

Here are two races that lived peacefully on this land in ancient times, when war was a sacrament, and in modern times they kill each other in the interest of domestic partisan politics. It's enough to leave you doubting the advantages of democratic institutions.

And I thought It Was Something Simple Like Suicide Bombings
by Palace Stein Tuesday April 09, 2002 at 08:00 AM

Could it be that 130 dead Israelis in one month is why there are tanks in Palestinaijns cities. Could it be that simple an explanation? Becuase a low of really stupid people seem to find anything else to explain it.

I want to know who here would not react if they were unbder attack. Obviously, this includesd the Palestinains now under threat of the IDF. They have a right to resist that, and that's why Israel is using tanks.

But 10 days ago, before the world was outraged by Israel's invasion, Israel was NOT in those towns. Those cities were not occupied, and the Palestinains were exercizing their self-detyermination and autonomy. That means the Jewws they were killing in the streets of Israel - Haifa, Natanya, Tel Aviv, West Jerusalem - have THEIR right to resist, which was stolen by murderees dressed in civillian clothing, who committed massacres in the name of a nationalist ideology. THIS is the bottom line.

Anyone herte who feels comfortable with his rhetoric as to WHY Israelis should accept this, should learn that there is no monopoly on rhetoric. Everyonme has their causes justified in their own mind. The real issue is not what narrativce of history is right or wrong, but whether the Palestinian ideology of usingh suicide bombings to eke concessions out of Israel is right or wrong. If its not wrong, then its a valid tactic both ways. If it is wrong, the FUCKING SAY SO.

Yes, and obviously you are too blinded by one terrorist event to see the cruelty committed by your own people.

Stephen, I agree with you. If it weren't for democracy (or any governing body, for that matter), there would be no violence. Human beings lived on this planet for over 3 million years just fine with no violence and no poverty. It has only been in the last 15-30,000 years that we have become so violent due to religion and hoarding of land.

Palace Stein, I would do something to protect myself if I could, and I knew it was going to do some good. But I would never harm innocent people to do it. And I think it's always better to look for a way to stop the violence by looking at what "I" can do in the situation (maybe stop building settelements on Palestinian land). You know, nobody talks about the settlements.

Why can't one person here tell me why Israelis keep building settlements on Palestinian land? What is your justification for that? How can you justify multiple violations of international laws established by the UN? Nobody seems to be able to explain that one.

genocide
by Maja Lovrenovic Tuesday April 09, 2002 at 08:58 AM

while we are remembering all the mass killings in this world from the wwII onward, we should not forget srebrenica nor other bosnian tragedies. here, in sarajevo, on april 6, we commemorated the tenth anniversary of the siege that began in 1992. the same day i was reading reports from palestine on this web site and other internet sites. and my hands trembled, just the way they trembled in 1992, when i was separated from my family in sarajevo, and just the way they trembled on september 11 when we watched the scenes of terror in new york on tv.

on september 13 i went by the us embassy here in sarajevo. there were bouquets of flowers sided near the entrance. only hundred meters away from it is a cemetery of the 1992 - 1995 siege victims. those flowers were brought before the us embassy by the people who know in their bones what terror and fear is.

that place became a temporary cemetery (on the grounds of the former olympic stadium) because the real cemetery could not be reached because of the sniper fire and grenades. and now i read of temporary burials in the parking lot in front of the ramallah hospital. how ones hand would not tremble? how does one keep his hand still?

that such a massacre as this unfolding atrocity could occur in this age of mass media and instant communication stuns me. that mainstream media would gloss over the bombings, deaths, witnesses and violence saddens me. i cannot understand how it is that a people that are so clearly the victims (the Palestinian people) can be still continuously portrayed as the aggressors, and titles such as "evil" and "terrorist" be applied to them when all that they desire seems to be the basic will to live on the land of their forefathers.
Is it Zionism, is it racism? Is it that American myopia has spread too far? Whatever it is, my prayers and my convictions are with all who stand against Sharon and his own peculiar brand of Terrorism

Well Mr. Leo , for one thing I must say that for sure is not a good idea to follow the jewish religion. The religion that blunty denies and insult Our Lord Jesus Christ and considers the old testament a secondary reading does not certainly deserve any sane follower.
Theirs is from time inmemorial a hate religion mixed with unbelievable mistics (Kabala) and endless idiotic recomendations for purity.
The fact of life is that they, through shrewdness, has conquered the financial world and you know money speaks loudly ( at least to the very anglo-american people and their dream of richness) so now ,face it, they command.
Command on you American and ,hard to admit , they have used you guys during the last 100 years to fulfil their own :
Dominate the world.Slave all 'lower' races.
People like the Rothschild Dinasty helped ( with un-suspectable americans like-Harriman-Presscot Bush, etc) Hitler financially well into the second world war.And obviously Rothschild Family is Jew,may be the most powerful financial entity in the world.
So matters is not to negate religions but to identify correctly among good and evil.
Americans are so brainwashed that they swallowed WTC as shown by the Jewish media (almost all the media) and even as mounting evidence appears DENYING the veracity of many facts,we have all these stupid people crying and remenbering that denials are not good(remenber that, for example to deny the holocaust is forbiden in many countries, certainly an absurdity).
When somebody above remenbered the fact that they were no a single ISRAELY Jew inside the complex ,that sound realy very extrange.there were many other nationalities present there but no Israely Jews...
And the apparent Pentagon fake. There is a book by a french guy that shows clearly that there were not visible aircraft debris in the spot ( no seats,no fuselage, nothing, again very extrange)

Americans put your brains to work!!!!

Neither side is right. Everyone is wrong in the Middle East. America is wrong. The EU is wrong. Had both sides kept this to a military engagement then things would be different. But instead, Hamas and others sent suicide bombers to kill innocent Israelis while the IDF indescrimately shoots and bombs innocent Palestinians. The US supports Israel while the EU supports the Palestinians. Both the US and EU needs to more neutral. But this is politics so the chances of this being resolved anytime soon is slim.

Address the roots of the problem
by Chris Tuesday April 09, 2002 at 09:59 AM

Everyone wants to take little pieces of this conflict out of context and focus exclusively on them, in order to justify their side of the argument. This is wrong. You must consider the whole picture, and work to the core of the problem.

The problem begins and ends with the occupation. British imperialists and Zionist Jews in the early 20th century agreed to make a Jewish state out of the historical holy land, without properly considering the rights of the people who had been living there for the previous 1000 years. With the international community goaded forth by Holocaust pity, the Arab population of Palestine was told to move aside and make room for Israel. Not asked -- told.

And then when they resisted being displaced, they were simply forced off and sent fleeing in terror (does the Deir Yassin massacre mean anything here?). And in one form or another, they haven't stopped fighting for their land since.

I have heard many Israel supporters say things like "the 1967 war was self defense", as a means of justifying Israeli occupation of those additional territories. This claim is completely baseless on two counts. First, international law doesn't allow the continued occupation of conquered lands (much less settlement of them), even if acquired in "self-defense". Secondly, and even more damning, is that the claim is pure fabrication. You need consult no further source than Moshe Dayan, Israeli Defense Minister at that time, who in 1976 admitted that Israel provoked the confrontation by sending tractors plowing through the demilitarized zones until someone finally shot at them, after which they could launch their attacks in "self-defense".

Everything about the occupation stinks to high heaven. There is not a single way to justify it. We would make so much more progress if people would stop trying to do so. Condemn suicide bombers for the crime that it is, but do not pretend that this conflict can be resolved by firing more American weapons at an occupied people.

The occupation is the very heart of the problem. Nearly everything in this conflict traces back to the occupation. End it now. This is the only way to find peace.

green arrowisms
by jake Tuesday April 09, 2002 at 09:59 AM

With particular referrence to Jon Farr's "Confrontation":

In the seventies there was a spectacular issue of DC's 'The green arrow' which won the Golden Eagle Award for best comic of the year. It was concerned with greenie's son being a heroine addict. The comic featured a full-page picture, (Groundbreaking for then) depicting greenie standing over his od'd son and saying something like... "This is the symptom of a disease, to end it, we have to attack the disease itself."

Jon Farr is on a curve when he described this particular conflict as being "elite games using war as just another means of legitamising the rich and powerful" There's the disease.

"what we need is for the Palestinian and Israeli people to realise that they don't need their government's permission to make peace". That is the truth throughout the world but the operation of making that turn takes mass world action.

We really are still very low on the evoloutionary scale. To continue to accept that war and might is the best way for all conflicts to be resolved, to accept that the hub around which the whole of human destiny turns should be money and power, to allow yourself to adopt the sort of moral consciousness where the endless abject sufferring of the masses is somehow a sad tragedy that can't easily be rectified especially by you... That's neanderthal.

We are being lead down the garden path, divided, fragmented, muted and made lame. Jon Farr's elite are alive and kicking and have been for a very long time:

"Tony Blair is to push president George Bush to exempt British Steel from the 30% tariff on imports to the US... in return for the special relationship and his support for the war on terror." Daily Mirror, London 9/4/02

The green arrow was right. You can't stop heroine addiction by cracking the heads of the dealers, imprisoning the users, giving awareness lessons... You have to destroy the pain the addict wishes to leave behind. The current events in Palestine are the same. As are all recent wars. The sufferring of all the civilians who have died are not due to one specific conflict or another so much as they are due to the 'elite' struggle for power throughout the world. For wars to stop, you have to look at what leads to them and every time, as you travel that path, you smell greed, hate, oil, power... the stench of a few men huddled together ensuring mass profits from devious deals that result in the sufferring of thousands.

And it is always men in this neanderthal cave. Though women may enter this world of power and greed, they play it by the man's same rules. No woman, outside of that clique of murderous fools, could so easily make decisions that bring the murder of thousands, bring starvation and disease to millions of children, make profit from the high market prices of essentials and life saving medicines...

May Indymedia grow and grow and my thoughts are with your operators everywhere.

Israel has a right to defend itself and that is what is happening now. The military operation to smoke out the terrorists seems to be succesful, no suicide bombings for 8 days now. I have no doubt in my mind that Israel seeks peace and most Palestinians want peace as well but the Palestinians have to grow up and choose a more responsible leader not that corrupt terrorist towelhead Arafat.."

That is bullshit! The only reason why the suicide bombings have stopped is because of the actions that Israel is taking inside of their own country! The occupation has nothing to do with the bombings... the suicide bombings were just another excuse for Israel to invade... All israel wants is land.

Kind of in the same situation as the U.S. The U.S planned to invade afghanistan even before 911. But when 911 came, it gave them an excuse.

No countries, no government, no war

Your right, until politics work this out, there will be a continuing genocide against the Palestinians. I've written many letters to congress and the President asking for aid to Israel be cutoff and for Israel to be forced to move to pre-1967 borders but my pleas have probably only fallen on deaf ears. The US Government is not run on the will of the people but by those who in power, hence the reason why the US is dragging its feet in stopping Israel.

What is it? You like to mix things up, see if ya can get a rise out of people? I used to do the same, when I was 4 years old. But with normal development, I overcame those disfunctions. I like people to like me. Obviously, you don't.

What's wrong, Gorso/Gordo? No one loves you? Need a hug? Is that all you want? It's not too difficult to get people to like you, all you have to do is TRY!

I thought I might just type that in, since I'm wasting type on you anyhow.

The photo you showed as a justification for enthnocide; tell me; why do you think those assholes did it?

"Because they are jealous of ues, bedause we have freedom and democracy"?

And 3 is 4 and red is green. Why should our freedom bother them so much, to the point of learning how to fly airliners, steal them, and crash them into buildings?

What?

"Because they don't have it in their countries".

Well then, why is that? Could it be that our government has imposed cruel & oppressivge regimes in their countries, so as to secure a constant flow of oil from the region?

Naw-w-w-w, you're right. Our leaders' motives are purely altruistic! We have to help bring about democracy and freedom, throughout the world!! I know, I know, it's a thankless task, but someone has to do it! Better US than THEM!

Well then, expect more to come, as long as we continue on this route.

Tell me Kew: if the Israelis want peace so bad, why haven't they made any response to the peace overtures of the Saudis? (well, they did, if you wanna include the recent military actions)

And if they want peace so bad, why do they continue to install new colonies in arab lands, AFTER agreeing not to?

And they want peace so bad: why are they denying fundamental rights to the Palestinians?
Why are they denying water to them?
Why are they demolishing their crops, their livelihoods?
Why do they deny the Palestinians the right to self-determination, to live?

Do you suppose their might be a correlation between the suicide attacks and the oppressive measures the palestinians are forced - by the Israelis - to live under?

THE AMERICAN PATRIOT who wrote with such hate of the Muslims is no patriot and only American by accident of birth. All of the Americans I know am outraged by what is happening to the Palestinians. Sharon has shamed the Jewish people and made them the most reviled people on the planet. If it was his aim to turn the world's favor toward the Palestinians, he has succeeded. If it was his aim to show himself as a deadly and dangerous psychopath, he has succeeded. I and many other Americans are raising our voices demanding that the US cut off aid and diplomatic ties to Israel. And I promise you that although I am only one, I will find another and another and another to cry out on behalf of the Palestinian people. From the reports I have been reading there clearly is another holocaust taking place in the refugee camps in Palestine.
Sharon only wants to war and he should be held responsible for every single child and adult killed. He is to blame for the suicide bombers as he is using Hamas as a pawn hoping for another suicide attack so that he can justify to the world his policy of genocide.
The ethnic cleansing in Palestine has gone on for long enough. My fear is that he is sowing the seeds for the destruction of Israel (as maybe not now but 20 or 50 years time) its 'neighbours' may take revenge.

Leo,

I completely agree.

Religion is the root of this conflict. Religion provides no answers, only justification for further killing. Religion has caused more chaos on this planet than stability. We would all be better off without any religion whatsoever.

Whether or not religion technically justifies killing is not the question. The question is, rather, are there those who rationalize killing by manipulating subjective interpretations of religious texts for their own private agenda?

I hope that one day humans will begin making decisions based upon objective facts, rational thought, and most importantly, love of their fellow man.

Religion, the root of the conflict?
by Mango x Tuesday April 09, 2002 at 01:42 PM

J Rock -

Religion, the root of the conflict?

I have to disagree.

It’s used as a pretext, much like ethnicity, caste, nationality, political ideology/affiliation, name-brand of the shoes you wear, etc.

It’s all about POWER.

Religion is just another pigeonhole that those in power can lop us into, so as to divide and therefore better control us.

But, this does lead me to ask: as a pretext, which is worse?

Sharon/bin Laden’s motive of ethnic/religious purity?

Or Bush & co’s motive of economic and military might?

JHVH/Allah? Or the Almighty Dollar?

CHOOSE YOUR GOD!!

Muy Senor Mio:

I would like to point out a few more inanities in your latest outburst:

(A) To say that the Jewish people have made great contributions to humanity is not the same as saying "intelligence is not property of Jews as you imply." For example, if I say bananas are a tasty fruit, this in no way implies that apples are not also tasty.

(B) You refer to "your damn financiers." As I said, I am a Muslim, so which financiers are you referring to? Saudi? Moroccan? Iraqi? Lebanese? etc. Be specific.

(C) I referred to Sharon's government as racist and fascist. Your comment "You cann't try to apologize Jews showing Sharon GENOCIDE" is therefore moot.

I could go on, but I will refrain. Your tone (e.g. "Come on Jew [sic], Show your face") defines you, sir.

Let's put unbearable pressure all over the world,to at least, after this bloodshed is finished , take Ariel Sharon to the International Courts in Hague to respond for :
GENOCIDE.
If The formidable jew lobby had their Nüremberg after world war II and if Milosevic is facing his , nothing more just than to carry Mr.Sharon under the same charges. We have to remenber he ordered the killing of the principal testimony against him due to past Chiabra and Chatila previous genocides.
So nothing more just.
Pressure on Hague!!!

Mr."Sanity",
First of all you called my an idiot on your first message,so I consider to defy you on whatever grounds I consider correct.May be I'am simple minded and you are a Jew,one without guts to speak representing a jew.I do not want to be on any side.Be it muslim or Christian ,etc. You are trying to separate jewish religion from jewish people ,a thing absolutely impossible.
It's true that any generalization will be prone to fail.I even have a couple of good jewish (they were born from jew women) friends and surprisingly they think like me.I know that many so called left wing Israelits thinks like me.But the inmense majority of the jews in Israel or in the 'diaspora' is in agreement with Ariel Sharon Genocide. From the religious point of view , there are many passages of 'talmud' that are simply disgusting and insultating to Christianity .
I was born in a neighbourhood predominantly Jew in a City in South America.Have enjoyed the frienship of several jewish children, even if they hold separate from us ,Christians. But they had a certain ,you know "feeling" against us , mainly autoctonous.Even they were not able to recognize that our country had been so kind in receiving them ,normally persecuted elsewere. My father worked 25 years for a Jew,even when he was ill. When things started to get difficult, the jew decided to close the factory and told to my father,"Carlos go to the courts and claim whatever are your rights".So my father had to fight endlessly to recover half of whatever was due. This is Jewish loyalty. This particular Jew used to go religiously to the Synagoge.
Yes you will continue to call me simpleminded, not sophisticated enough, but I assure that I read the Talmud in order to speak.
You look too much excited not to be a Jew,Sr.

Never Again
by Peggy Boyd Tuesday April 09, 2002 at 07:48 PM

I am haunted by a scene that I saw long ago. It was in a documentory or a news story. I don't remember but I can still see a young woman in rags carrying a dead baby. she was crazy with grief and she walked back and forth. It was in the 1940's.It was in the Warsaw Gheto. This picture has stayed with me for a long time. I had hoped that what we said then would be true. Never Again. Is it too late for hope?
NO! We can't let that be true. We are all capable of the worst cruelty but we are also capable of the courage of Love. "If not now, When? If not us, Who?"

What happened to the suicide bombings? Could Israel actually be on to something?
by dv8r Tuesday April 09, 2002 at 10:55 PM

>:What happened to the suicide bombings? Could Israel actually be on to something?

what happend is that they are in Haifa and just killed 10 on a bus...
The suicide bombings will not stop as long as Sharon illegally occupies Palestinian terrortory.

DUH!

Today, IDF troops carried out Sharon's version of a Final Solution and refused an international request for withdrawal and continued killing and demolishing housing indiscriminately throughout Palestine, New York's Jewish Billionaire Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, in a Holocaust Remembrance Day speech made a pointed comparison between Islam and Nazism at a service in Manhattan to commemorate Holocaust victims.

“Suicide bombers, part of the Islamic jihad, are just the same thing as the concentration camps of the Nazis back in the late Thirties and early Forties,” Mr Bloomberg said. “What I will do, and what the people of New York and of the United States will do, is demonstrate unequivocally that we stand with the people of Israel.”

I have a hard time understanding what Bloomberg think's he's referring to since, this time around the camps are filled with Muslims not Jews.

The Jews, aided by Western sympathy ( and arms) relocated enmasse into formerly Arab lands after WWII to build a homeland and eventual proto-religious state. Israeli military intelligence documents indicate that at least 75 percent of the 700,000 Palestinian refugees that occupied the area prior to 1947 left due to fierce Zionist military actions, forced expulsions, and psychological campaigns.

The Jewish population in the middle east eventually grew from a small minority circa WWI of 10,000 - 60,000 to today's nation of 6 million.

Millions of Palestinians have spread out in a diaspora, perhaps 2 million in the West Bank & Gaza, another 700,000 in Israel. The rest scattered into neighboring countries. Jordan with 1.2 million Palestinians, is the only Arab state to grant citizenship to the Palestinians who live there. Palestinians in other Arab states generally do not enjoy the same rights as other citizens.

Until palestine gets their homeland as promised back over 50 years ago, this stupid holy war will continue unabated...

get used to it...

I predict if the U.S and others cannot force Israel to stop, those suicide bombers will be here and in Europe in no time...

the double standard
by Rae Wednesday April 10, 2002 at 12:44 AM

First of all let me start out with a message to the patriot who attacked muslims and decided to show his extreem "intelligence" with his choice of words.I guess we know you are so ignorant that you can not speak properly so I pity you.

My next question is for all the posters here. I am an American born and raised. So as an American I was shocked , speachless, .... on 9/11.

I think the total dead was close to 3000. And the majority of Americans were ready to retaliate. They were angry, eager and so it happened. America suddenly and quickly held Osama BinLaden responsible. And off they went. Now any sane and reasonable person is going to know that such heavy bombing will result in innocent civilians being killed. And it did. Yet majority of Americans supported it, because they felt the end justifys the means. Thousands of Americans killed, on American soil.

Let me ask you this , If it is okay for Americans to fight back , why is it so hard to understand why Palestinians feel they have this right? Why dont they?
And why is Osama hunted down, while Sharone is walking free, free to be a leader, free to shake hands with American diplomats, yet he is ABSOLUTELY responsible for the masacre of over 2000 Palestinians, women, children butchered in Southern Lebanon in the mid 1980's. Never once was he held accountable, even after his own govt found him repsosible.????????
And Palestinians are to just sit back.
Israel became a country, by masacreing Palestinians.
Under OCCUPATION they have committed horrible acts against children, and women. Yet Palestinians are to sit back and take it.
Only America deems who can fight back????????
Only America deems who is a terroist?
9/11 and what is going on in Palestine are very different situations..Palestinians have the right to fight back.As any people who live under Occupation would.

The current comflict between the Jews and the Palestinians is just another ploy by the US to force one of the Arab nations namely Iraq to use weapons of mass detruction against Isreal. That will give the US the red light to retaliate with full force. Sudam is being threatened by the eminent invaion of Iraq by US froces. The European and Arab coalition is falling apart, what better way to refortify the coalition that to force a mad man like Sudam to make a move,(what does he have to loose he's a goner anyway) might as well go out with a BANG. Even if a few thousand jews and or Palistinians have to die in the process. This is not a war against terrorisim it's a war for control of the mideast and the oil there. Just look at the current Bush administration's direct links to oil interests. Afganistan's newly appointed president Karsai used to be on Unocal's board of directors. The bush administration was meeting with the Taliban to build a pipeline across Afganistan up to a month before the 9/11 attacks. Need I say more. Those that belive this is a war against terrorisim are running around with the wool over their eyes. They need to stop watching the pastuerised, homogenized and sterilized corporate media and use the net to do their research.

You are lucky not to have known what true SS did
If you would you would not compare anyone Israel Army or LAPD to SS.

Israel is operating in a tough environment where terrorist are using civilians as human-sheilds. This is a violation of the 4th Geneva convention.

These are the same terrorists that blow up civilians - this is war crimes

The jewish people in israel are behaving like savages.

The jewish crime state of israel must be immediately disarmed and dismantled. It's leaders must be arrested for war crimes.

No nation is safe until the jewish crime state is dismantled.

To PUZZLED-On al-QURAN
by qwerty1978 Wednesday April 10, 2002 at 05:08 AM

here is the summary of 6:8 Quran

Verse 6: Jesus the son of Mary declared his Prhopethood to the childrens of Israel, confirming the past Law (the previous scriptures of the Jews and other peoples) and the coming of another Prophet ... Ahmad (Muhammad) ... and Jesus said.. but when he (Muhammad) comes to them (unbelievers) they said ..This is nothing but sorcery!

Verse 7: the greatest sins are those who invents falsehood against Allah

Verse 8: But all falsehood to Allah can never be successful, ultimately Allah shall complete His Light (His revelation, plan)

These verses simply show that the struggle between evil and good has been around since the beginning of humanity.

To those who believe in evil, nothing will make them believe in good, they seek to pervert, and put in the worst light what is manifestly good.

In this sense, the media blackout of what is clearly genocide against the Palestinians can be understood.

But yet, there arise now voices of sanity and awareness - indymedia and others - all part of Allah's Plan - has made people realize the evil being wrought in Palestine.

Stop the war. A safe Israel means a FREE Palestine.

So, Walt, in your opinion what Israel does/has done has *nothing* at all to do with the suicide attacks? That some Palestinians just *hate* all Jews so much they are willing to kill themselves if they can take a few Jews with them? What?

The current military operation will not stop the attacks (unless Sharon's troops slaughter all Palestinians).

And no kids, I do not support suicide attacks. Killing civilians is wrong. Period.

Thoughts on situations with no redeemable conclusion.

I don't get it. That's the beginning and the end, because there's no good guys here, there's just ploys for power by rich spoiled cowards.

Suicide bombing is wrong, both in message and practice. It makes people fear those next to them, the common neighbor, people walking by, it seperates us further and humans are but a people because we thrive together.

Now, the IDF is also very wrong, if half of what is reported here is half true, that's still a whole lot more injustice then should ever happen.

Now my point...

Why are the Palestinians not hanging Arafat by his most vulnerable of body parts right now? Arafat cares nothing about the people, for years now he's been sending people to destroy themselves and others. Why? Because his palestinian people should be free? No absolutely not, for all these years he's been sending these people to their deaths because he is paid by the arab nations to gain back strategic military positions lost in the 7 days war and other conflicts. That's all... he does not care about his people, he does not care about becoming a nation. If he cared about his people he would have given himself up a long time ago, simply to save lives. Arafat is manipulating a population with lies and hidden agendas, and such ignorance is possibly the worst crime you could ever commit against humans as a civilization.

No one has cried out??
by Chris Wednesday April 10, 2002 at 07:17 AM

Walt, are you kidding? "No one has cried out" about the suicide bombings??

If you live in the US, just tune to your favorite TV station, and every single newscast will cry out about the suicide bombings. You will hear not one word about Palestinian rights to return to their stolen homeland. Not one.

Here at Indymedia, where the "airwaves" aren't controlled by corporate profiteers too afraid to speak in truths, you get plenty of people giving the other side of the story. There are, in fact, two sides. And if you date this conflict back to its origins, you will find that everything flows from Palestinian Arabs being forced off their land by brutality. It is not a pretty story.

Nobody can fault you for not knowing both sides -- you've been assaulted by
